Comparison

GoTo Resolve vs TeamViewer

GoTo Resolve and TeamViewer are both widely used in IT support environments, but they serve different primary use cases. TeamViewer built its reputation on fast, reliable remote desktop connections for ad hoc support. GoTo Resolve has evolved from GoTo Assist into a broader IT management platform with integrated RMM and helpdesk capabilities. Here is how they compare for different team types.

Quick verdict
  • Choose GoTo Resolve if: You need integrated RMM monitoring, helpdesk ticketing and patch management alongside remote access
  • Choose TeamViewer if: You primarily need fast, reliable remote connections — especially cross-platform to mobile or IoT devices
  • Free tier: Both offer free plans; GoTo Resolve free is more practically useful for unattended device management

Pricing

GoTo Resolve prices per device. The free tier (3 devices, 1 technician) is genuinely useful for small environments. Paid plans scale by device count. Technician seats are bundled with device tiers on most plans. Annual billing offers a discount.

TeamViewer prices per technician user (for remote access) or per endpoint (for managed devices in TeamViewer Remote). The personal/non-commercial free tier is not licensed for commercial IT use. Business licenses start at a per-user rate.

For IT teams managing many devices with a small number of technicians, GoTo Resolve's per-device pricing is often more predictable. TeamViewer per-user pricing can be more cost-effective if the team size is small but device counts are very high.

RMM Capabilities

This is where GoTo Resolve's origins as a full IT management platform show. GoTo Resolve's RMM features — continuous monitoring, threshold alerts, automated patch deployment, and script execution — are integrated natively into the console.

TeamViewer has expanded its RMM capabilities significantly with TeamViewer Remote (formerly TeamViewer Management Console and Monitoring & Asset Management). The capabilities are broadly comparable at the high end, but GoTo Resolve's monitoring and helpdesk integration feels more seamlessly unified in day-to-day use, while TeamViewer's remote access quality and speed remain a strong differentiator.

Remote Access Quality

TeamViewer has a long-standing reputation for fast, reliable remote desktop connections across diverse network conditions. Its compression and routing algorithms are mature. For remote access performance on high-latency or low-bandwidth connections, TeamViewer generally still leads.

GoTo Resolve's remote access quality is good — comparable to other modern platforms — but historically TeamViewer has been the benchmark for connection stability in enterprise environments. If remote connection reliability to difficult network locations is the primary concern, TeamViewer may have an edge.

Which Should You Choose?

Choose GoTo Resolve when…

You want a unified IT management platform: RMM, helpdesk and remote support in one console, on a per-device pricing model. Better for teams that need proactive monitoring alongside reactive support.

Choose TeamViewer when…

Remote desktop connection quality is the top priority, especially for diverse device types (mobile, IoT), or your team primarily does ad hoc remote access rather than proactive device management.

For MSPs specifically

GoTo Resolve's multi-tenant console and per-device pricing tend to work well for MSPs managing client device fleets. TeamViewer Business plans are also MSP-capable; compare against your specific device-to-technician ratio.
